Typically the photos haven't come out well, but the lighting was awful.

Had a go at some urban style bases - nothing major, but still more complicated than I'm used to! Cork, plasticard, Vallejo Black Lava (seems like this stuff is good!) and a little barbed wire. Thoughts?

Looks great. Always hard to tell until you put some colour into it. I like the little tubes you put in. Very nice. What did you use?

Yeah, knew that it would be difficult to see without paint and while it was still wet, but I was too pleased with myself to wait 😂 when I have better lighting I'll try a couple more photos, see what they look like with something on top - want to see how much of a difference the cork heights make (middle one is double thickness)

The plastic-coated paperclips I've been sticking into corks to paint on. Didn't think it worked too badly, although the single layered cork was a touch too thin to get it to work nicely. Meant to get some plastic rods to cut into shell cases but I completely forgot to add them to the order.

Also fairly certain I coiled the wire too tightly on the left, it that's not the end of the world.

I'm impressed. I need to get some cork stuff. I've just been using random spare bits from the mdf kits but they are too blocky.
What figures are going to go on them?

I just did a little order from https://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/ (they had stock available, didn't look elsewhere once I found them) to play aroumd with. Once I know for definite what works I'll likely bulk order.

Probably old metal scouts. The Primaris I've been fiddling with will continue to be testing models I think, and I'll start with some of the older firstborn stuff.

One of them now looks a little more like this. Thoughts?

(it's not perfect, but it's come out better than I was expecting!)

Love it. Very realistic actually. What did you do for the browny spots? Razorwire is very nicely done too.. I used one before and I think I over used it.. here's proof less can be more!

The second and third I actually took a slightly different approach, but I forgot to photograph them!

Black undercoat > all over with VMC German Grey > base drybrushed & stippled with Rhinox Hide, Mournfang Brown, VGC Sombre Grey, VGC Wolf Grey and VMC German Grey > 'concrete' stippled as base, just less brown.
Basically just threw what I had to hand at it 😂
Razor wire was Balthasar Gold (don't own any Tin Bitz, or whatever replaced it yet) and P3 Quicksilver, Nuln Oil.

I used to find better paints for earthy and 'concretey' colours, but I'll have a look through the VMC range again at some point maybe. Also need a better stippling brush, as the drybrush I have isn't the best shape for it.

The wire actually came out better than I expected - it's just difficult to see when everything is sprayed black!

The Balthasar gold has worked really well to be fair!! I think leadbelcher may be the replacement?
Well done mate!

It did the job, although I'm already looking at changing how I do them after some searching. Made an order (yes, that's a third one I have on the way, no more now!) for some Vallejo & Scale 75 paints and some Vallejo & AK pigments, which I've never actually used before.

Apparently Warplock Bronze is the new line, but Vallejo's Tinny Tin is very close to the old one. The stuff I have on the way well let me go for more of a rusted look, but I could possibly use both. We'll see in a few days. 😁
