500 point games (tactics and combinations of units in small games)

I'm wondering since we now have a few astartes players in here:D If we could start a rolling discussion and brainstorm if you like of setups and tactics on small games combat patrol size, and incursion size battles? Most of the guides/tactics out there are written for 2k p games, And I feel that the power creep is a lot different in a 500p games than they are in 2k p games. Allso you can be countered "quicker" in a low p game as there usually is just at max 4 - 6 units for most armies. Allso most big guns units like tanks and the sort just cost to much to even use. You wont bring a land raider for a 500p game for instance (though you wont usually bring a land raider in any game compared to your other options:p), the point with the lists is finding good combinations that is points efficient aswell as being able to play it in 9th edition for the missions ;)

A small patrol made for charging and smashing:D.
Chaplains swift and deadly trait makes this force quite fast as it can advance and charge.
I paid 1 cp for apothecary's wl trait as your going to pay 1cp anyway for a revival;) allso I picked the relic pistol for him since its sooooooo good :p suppressors are there for some shooting support but mostly the added bonus of no overwatch. Didnt take chaplains mantra for charge help as you get that from rg strats;) it lacks some -ap on the shooting but makes up for it in the fighting part ;)
Concerning strategems: 3 cp isn't much. RG has allways been strat hungry from the start :S all the cool stuff is pre first battle round:p But you really can't use em since you need transhuman, and gene wrought might in this list. But it really depends what your playing against.
Allso those Suppressor are excellent hq snipers when the tactical doctrine is up for raven guard and successors, even if they don't have high ap weapons. Though most hq's have a good invul save anyway. But +1hit+1wound is really nice and the + to hit is something they are missing with theyre heavy weps;) they are allso fast enough to grab a point somewhere that isn't contested and still have range of most of the map/area

Looks like a good list!!
I like a two pronged approach with something holding the rear for 500.
The only proper 500 marine battle i did was in 8th with my swolves. Had rapier and intercessors hanging back ish. Then one prong was aggressors and the other was Thunderwolf cavalry. This was against adams death guard.
The cavalry did well and minced some poxwalkers. They charged all the way around the board and then made the mistake of charging the lord of contagion... he took no damage and finished them all on his return attack!

You didn't have the issue there if the cavalry being to quick/fast compared to those aggressors back then? Allso I understand aggressors back in 8th with theyre double tapping on shooting... but I've always found aggressors in need of a reroll support as those -1 to hit makes them a bit of a coin toss in melee.... Theyre either murder machines or theyre missing over 50 % and without an invul or anything they'll just be killed by a hard hitting character or elite (3 dmg high str high ap models) like the Lord of contagion for instance:p

Yes it did. The thunderwolves are too weak also.
The aggressors got stuck fighting the drone in a useless stalemate where neither unit could damage each other effectively 🤣 it wasnt a great showing on my part, but made for a close battle.

Idd. Many combinations of units aren't really viable in a small points game. I've played my friend for 3 games now at 500p games against necrons and some rules are just insane in those games. Necrons are extremely hard to kill if you aren't able to effectively remove whole units in quick succession becouse of reanimation protocols and orb of ressurection. I could see nurgle being really strong in those types of games.
As an astartes player your used to combing buffing characters to make a very strong murder force. Capt and lt for instance, but that combo already costs you depending on options ofc about 200 p. And your forced to use 5man squads as troop choices if you want to bring bigger guns.... Hmmm....

Let's take it up a notch: what would you bring to counter high save high t high fnp army with only 500 points to go on?
