Transfer prep would be the obvious explanation, yeah. Sorry! 😂 Shield definitely looks more balanced, think you've cracked it! Like seeing the freehand finished too. =]

And yes James, always VV 😉

I'm not really sure how you could make a stencil so small and precise, but also flexible so that it could be applied to all kinds of surfaces. You would also have the issue of things like the eyes: they would either have to be connected, or brushed in later.

You could perhaps reverse it, and create the skull as the template. Colour your part the skull colour (say white), apply the template and colour over it (say in black). Not sure if that makes sense, but it would be very fiddly if it's doable at all.

If you come up with something though I would love to know!

Or it could just be there for me to look back on :p its allmsot a perfect blend between a scream mask and a skull of some kind. :p painting unliniar if there's something called that even is difficult:p @James did you get those eyes on the crawler on the first try ? I can't remember how many times I just repainted it red and started over again. Haha

I tried a totally different colour like brown and orange and it went completely wrong so i undid it all. But when i tried again it was all fine. Ive done quite a few eyes now so getting abit used to it but i think the biggest aid is the brushes. I use rosemary and co series 99 for my detail work and my god they are dream to work with. They really make gw and army painter brushes seem like felt tips 🤣
Ill post some better eye shots of the one i did on the old hauler over a year ago using gw and army painter brushes vs the ones I've done just now. The difference is stark haha

Hmmm only brushes I got is army painter and gw onces. :p hmm one thing about brushes though. Do you guys trim your brush when you get it... seems like every time I get a new brush there's always 3 - 8 brush hears sticking all over the place. And after I've used them over a couple of days they all settle down. Ofc I've just trimmed the stray bristles!!!!! Thats the word hahaha. Is this because bad brushes or is it normal for a new brush?

It shouldn't be expected, but on lower quality brushes it will unfortunately happen.

I know that James isn't a fan of Army Painter brushes, but personally I prefer them slightly (the white handled ones at least) to Citadel brushes. Both however are cheap quality synthetics, although GW don't price theirs as such!

Maybe take a look at Rosemary & Co? They produce sable brushes (real hair, not plastic, much better quality) that are very reasonably priced - about comparable with buying a Citadel or AP brush even, and they'll last you much longer!

Ive never had to do that tbh on any brand.

I think citadel and armypainter are ok but considering the price of r&c, I think its unlikely id ever buy them again!

You can buy direct from r&c from around 3 quid a brush. Series 33 is the top stuff but series 99 im using is great tbh.
Id also get some brush cleaner. We use masters brush cleaner.

I've had it once or twice with a new brush, moreso as they start to get used. Much like yourself though, having found R&C I doubt I'll be going back.

'we'? 😂
