Forum & Topic header areas

Something I'm currently looking at is reorganising the header areas of the forum and topic list pages.

On both pages there are large areas of empty space, and I'm hoping that I can not only condense things down but also improve consistency of placement between the two pages. Whilst doing so I'm also going to look at changing the layout slightly dependant on whether or not a viewer is logged in, to prevent guests from seeing a suboptimal layout.

As always, expect things to change or stop working briefly while I adjust things!

True. There is a lot of empty ground up top at the header. Never thought of it before, but some small amount of needless scrolling ensues every time one enters a page since it's not been condensed.

...the Imperium does not approve of your hunt for efficiency and improvement, @pawl ! Better praise the Machine God instead and swing some incence while you sprinkle sacred ointment on your PC, you hear me? :grinning:

My thoughts exactly!

I've taken to committing my here-tech works in a sealed underground bunker located somewhere in the Eastern Fringe - I'm hoping that's enough to keep me safe 😜

Just a quick update to say that I'm making progress, but I'm not there yet!
Currently working on topic view - things are mostly in place on the test site, but getting it to sit nicely for mobile is proving a challenge.

Changes are live!
Both the topic view pages (screenshot 1 below) and the forum view pages (screenshot 2 below) have had a bit of an overhaul. They should now have a matching layout across both pages (for example the search bar is now in the same place on both) and empty space has been removed so that those viewing on smaller devices like phones can actually see content without having to scroll halfway down the page!

As an added bonus for those on mobile, while I simply can't get the pagination controls (the little buttons that swap between pages) to work at the top of a forum/topic due to size constraints, if you click the "Page 1 of 7" button top right it will drag you down to the bottom pagination buttons without having to scroll. 😁

You may find the changes don't show straight away, or that things look broken at first - in either case this is most likely a caching issue. Clear your file cache and reload, and all should be well!

Both pages have been tested, but please let me know if you have any issues! =]

Your ability to stay on-topic astounds me! 😂

It's something I had forgotten about though, yeah. Can't say I've come up with a better idea yet though - I was kind of hoping that it not being grey would be enough 🙈 as ever, "suggestions on a postcard..."
